Two Moms are Better than None

Published by melissan at 9:19 am under Gay/Lesbian Parenting Edit This

My four year old niece hasn’t yet learned that the world has trouble accepting same sex parents.  When I told her that we were having a baby and that her aunt and I would be the mothers, she became sad.  She started to cry and said that she wanted two moms too and that it isn’t fair.  I reminded her that she has her dad and she said that she wanted to keep him but still wanted two mothers.

Rather than try to argue or explain the situation in more depth, I told my niece that there are lots of different types of families.  Some have two moms, some to dads, some only a mom, some only a dad, and so on.  She insisted that she still wanted two mothers, but she was happy having two aunts as well.

I didn’t want to use my blog as a platform in defense of same sex parenting, but as I peruse the blogs that I have been reading lately it is clear that to be an effective blogger you must your passion into words.   Topics that don’t really interest you don’t really interest your readers either.

I know that I am different, but I accept myself for who I am, I love my wife and I can’t wait for our daughter to arrive this April.
